Aid to West Africa
(Excerpt from message by Archbishop Miller, CSB)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
In February, Pope Benedict XVI called on the international community to come to the aid of West Africa Sahel region, noting its extreme poverty and worsening conditions.
Since then, the area has continued to experience a food crisis brought about by low rainfall and drought. The area is on the brink of a humanitarian crisis that will leave about 15 million people at risk of not having enough food.
It is crucial that we, whom the Lord has blessed with such abundance, respond to the dire needs of our brothers and sisters. On Jul 22 (this Sunday), a special second collection in the Archdiocese will be taken for the needs of the Sahel region.
The funds raised will help support large-scale food distribution projects organized by Caritas Mali, Caritas Niger and Caritas Burkina Faso.
Please use the special collection envelopes that you will find in your pews, or donate online at www.devp.org/donate.
Parish Picnic will be held on Aug 6 (BC Day) at Centennial Beach, Boundary Bay. Bus service will be provided at $10 for adult and $8 for children under 12 years old. Please register and purchase bus ticket at the Info Counter ASAP.
2nd Live-in Retreat The Canadian Martyrs Prayer Community is holding a 2nd live-in retreat this summer, this time for high school students from 13 - 17 years old at Camp Capilano, North Vancouver from Aug 3-5, 2012. The theme is "Kairos - the Lord's Time" cost is $50 per person, which includes lodging & meals. Please call Orlando at 604-805-5042.
YFFP (PREP for Secondary School Students) is now accepting registrations for next school year 2012-13. Classes will be held every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. Early bird discount will apply before Aug 5. Please register at the Info Counter.
