B.C. Catholic Collection    The Catholic Press collection is held once a year to help your parish mail The B.C. Catholic weekly newspaper to Catholic homes.  This collection is a way you can help reduce the parish's expenses, since every penny donated goes directly to the parish to help offset its mailing costs.  Next weekend, Feb. 4 and 5, please use the special B.C. Catholic Collection envelope in your envelope set to make a donation. Your generosity will help us with the important job of connecting parishioners with the Church of Vancouver.

 

Lunar New Year Dinner     will be held this Sunday evening at Continental Seafood Restaurant.  Please bring your tickets and enjoy.  Big thanks to all volunteers and donors of the raffle prizes.

Children’s Room                Parents with babies and toddlers who use this room during Sunday Mass are kindly reminded to respect the quiet environment, prayerful atmosphere and the need of other parishioners so that they can attentively participate in Mass.  It is the role of parents to guide their children throughout the liturgy of the Mass.

World Day of the Sick     Pope John Paul II instituted World Day of the Sick, setting aside the Feb 11, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, for its annual celebration.  In the Archdiocese of Vancouver, a Mass of Anointing will be celebrated on Friday, Feb 10 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vancouver at 11:00 am.

 

Bereavement Support Group     For two Saturdays, Feb 11 & 18, from 9:00 am to 4 pm with lunch included at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, will be offering support group for those people mourning the loss of a loved one through death.  Pre-registration is required, please call the Adult Faith Formation office 604-448-4525 or stjoesgriefgroup@gmail.com.

Do you know the names of the Apostles?

Peter, Andrew, James (son of Zabedee), John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Thaddeus, Simon and Judas Iscariot.

 

Come and See” - With these words, Jesus invited these twelve men to be with Him. Then He made them “apostles”, which means “to send forth”.

 

The Apostle mandate implies a service that is

1.       Pastoral (“go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”)

2.       Liturgical (“baptizing them”) and

3.       Prophetic (“teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”)

Guaranteed by the Lord’s closeness until the end of time (“and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.”)                                 ~ Pope Benedict XVI.
